OFFICIAL GUIDELINES 

RATIONALE

This time, you will be making something because you want to make it and because you know you can.

Salik-Katha Tumblr Awards opens its first competition on December 20, 2011. Setting fame, number of followers, age, years of blogging, and experience aside, everybody is encourage to join. The competition will run for three weeks. The announcement of winners will be on March 10, 2011.

OBJECTIVES

Salik-katha Tumblr Awards is a competition that aims to:

• challenge the potentials of all Tumbloggers in producing works on their chosen expertise

• discover and improve talents among new bloggers

• bond the Tumblr community through literature and the arts

• promote quality blogging in Tumblr

• foster camaraderie among Tumblr users

THEME

“The tao does not come here tonight to be judged—but to judge!” — Land of Bondage, Land of the Free

For its first year, the overall theme will be TAO: Unraveling his own adversaries. Basically, this theme focuses on man. In the categories, anything about the nature, culture, ways, and means of man can be talked about. This vast topic will be your arena. You can delve with anything that involves man, expressing yourself as to how you see the man of today.

OFFICIAL ENTRIES

1. The competetition is open to all Tumbloggers.

2. All official entries must be original and should not infringe on any proprietary, copyrights, or any other rights of any third party.

3. The entries should be produced by the contestant alone. There are no collaborations. This will be an individual contest.

4. All entries must be submitted on or before February 29, 2012.

5. All entries are to be emailed at salikkatha@gmail.com with the following subject: CATEGORY/URL, e.g., POETRY/ENGLISH/hartrabology. Attach your entry saved on Microsoft word 97–2003 for the writing contest and in JPEG format for the photos.

6. At the same time, your entry should be posted on your Tumblr Account, followed by the Salik-katha Logo and the link http://salikkatha.tumblr.com/ at the end of the post, further declaring that the post is an entry to the said competition.

CONTEST MECHANICS

Salik-katha will be catering writing and art competitions in five major categories.

I. Poetry Writing

1. Any form of poetry is acceptable. There are no rhyme and meter limitations.

2. This category is further subdivided into English and Filipino Categories.

3. The length should not exceed a one-page word document, sylfaen font style, font size of 11, 1.5 spacing. However, poems divided into columns are allowed as long as the final output will not exceed one page.

4. One entry is allowed for this category. You can submit one each for English and Filipino.

5. All entries should come with an appropriate title and URL.

II. Opinion Writing

1. This category is further subdivided into English and Filipino Categories.

2. The length should not exceed a one-page word document, sylfaen font style, font size of 11, single spacing.

3. One entry is allowed for this category. You can submit one each for English and Filipino.

4. All entries should come with an appropriate title, along with your full name and URL.

III. Short Story Writing

1. This category is further subdivided into English and Filipino Categories.

2. The length should not exceed to three-page word document, sylfaen font style, font size of 11, single spacing.

3. One entry is allowed for this category. You can submit one each for English and Filipino.

4. All entries should come with an appropriate title, along with your URL.

IV. Photography

1. There should be no enhancements made in the photo.

2. Photo must have a watermark of your URL.

3. Photo must have a title placed at the lower right part of the photo. Under the title, include “Official Entry to Salik-Katha Tumblr Awards 2011.”

4. The watermark and the title are the only things you would do upon using any photo enhancement application, .e.g., Abode Photoshop. No other adjustments are allowed.

V. Typography

1. Photo must have a watermark of your URL.

2. Photo must have a title placed at the lower right part of the photo. Under the title, include “Official Entry to Salik-Katha Tumblr Awards 2011.”

3. You can make your own text here or you can use a quotation from a person as long as you will provide your source. The quotation must also conform with the central theme.

All entries in all categories will be adjudged based on the following central criteria:

Creativity 30%
Relevance to the theme 20%
Impact 30%
Originality 20%
